“Another great week at Peg's Cottage, shared this time with friends.”

They were both very impressed with the location, comfort and facilities in the cottage. I would not hesitate in recommending Peg's to anyone wishing to explore this beautiful area of Cornwall. One very small point. The door to the twin bedroom does not shut properly. I had not noticed this on previous visits.

The property

Peg's is a charming traditional white fisherman's cottage of great character, boasting partial sea views from its front aspects on both floors and offering an exceptional mix of newly refurbished, fresh contemporary style with rustic elegance.

The cottage lies a few metres from steps down to a three mile stretch of sandy beach and is a gentle amble from the bustling village harbour with its shops, art and craft galleries, outstanding restaurants and pubs.

The sunroom provides a warm spot and entrance to the generously proportioned living area.

With wood floors, white panelled walls, an exposed stone end-wall and ceiling beams, the open plan ground floor provides a light and welcoming sitting room with extremely comfortable sofas and chairs, attractive dining area and well equipped farmhouse-style kitchen.

The deep-silled cushioned window seats offer cosy nooks for reading and weather-watching across the sea.

Upstairs are two bright and stylishly dressed bedrooms with enticing double and twin beds, all with crisp white linen and quirky jewelcoloured throws.

The bathroom has a three-quarter bath and a powerful shower-head above.

In front is a slate paved planted patio providing a sheltered haven with room for table and chairs for lazy breakfasts, alfresco dining and sunbathing.

Peg's would also make the perfect bolt-hole for a snug winter hide-away or romantic, relaxing escape.

Porthleven, near the ancient market town of Helston, is a fusion of working village and holiday resort.

For those that enjoy an inspirational coastal walk, the south-west coastal footpath is on the doorstep, en-route to Lands End in the west and The Lizard in the south.

Within easy driving distance, the historic port of Penzance and the sublime beaches at Porthcurno, Praa Sands and Marazion, all nestling in Mounts Bay, are easy must-do day-trips.

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for it's annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with it's National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
