“Thank you for letting Wheal Grey to us this week, it’s a lovely cottage.”

We chose the same tiles as you have used in the two bathrooms for our house, so it makes me smile every time I see them. I tried to get in touch during the week, but the email address in the welcome book doesn't work, and mobile numbers are pointless as there is no signal. Sykes has removed the contact owner link it used to have. Couple of things to add to the maintenance list. The wine fridge is broken. The socket has power, but the fridge doesn’t do anything. Not a big problem. The cooker hood fan is broken. The light works, but the fan does not. The shower in the sea green bathroom (with excellent choice of tiles) is not draining well, and is in danger of overflowing the door lip. I know you are limited on the chemicals you can use with the septic tank. The hob is not happy either. We have a similar one at home, and the controls drive us nuts too, but yours is broken. The touch sensor to turn it on doesn’t register your finger, until you turn it off at the wall and back on again. The big fridge has a dying compressor. It is working at the moment, but it is making lots of noise - which is usually a sign that the compressor is about to die. There is no oven glove or similar method of removing hot trays from the oven. The clothes drying rack is mostly missing, and the two bits that are left are very broken. It is a challenge to dry beach towels at the property. I don't want to put them in the washer dryer, as the sand will kill the machine; but there is nowhere to hang them either inside or out. We had a lovely week despite the weather.

The property

Within two miles of superb Praa Sands beach, Wheal Grey is a beautifully presented detached barn conversion.

Nestled in the hamlet of Tresowes Green with beams, exposed granite walls, oak wood floors and a wood burner, the spacious and well styled interior boasts a fusion of charm and contemporary furnishings.

Perfect for family, friends and couples seeking a countryside escape close to the coast, the ground floor accommodation offers a bright open-plan living room with wood burner, dining area and well equipped kitchen - a delightful social space for relaxation, social gatherings and lazy breakfasts whilst you plan the days adventure.

Three welcoming bedrooms, two sleek en-suite shower rooms and a pristine bathroom make this a very comfortable homestay.

Enjoy the Cornish sunshine in the generous garden gravelled terrace for blue-sky nibbles and a ‘natural’ lawn for children to play, with fenced enclosed Engine House to complete the character!

A short walk or few minutes drive away is the private fishing lake - fees apply.

The closest inn for hearty food is within a mile and there is a local garage for provisions, with supermarkets within easy reach.

The sandy beach at Praa Sands has excellent surf and offers tuition and board/wetsuit hire for all abilities.

After fun in the white water, seek refreshment in the beach café or discover the scenic seascapes from atop the coast path.

Just over five miles, much loved Marazion with big arc of sandy beach framing the landmark attraction of St Michaels Mount is a worthy destination.

At low water, walk across the cobbled causeway to this castle topped semi-isle with little harbour and tea shop, or board the ferry boat at high tide.

Marazion is a super ocean playground for swimming and boating or simply sit on the seaside terrace of The Godolphin Hotel with a beer and good Cornish food!

Four miles away, the popular resort of Porthleven with picturesque harbour and tiny beach is a must-visit spot.

Dine out in the excellent eateries or browse the eclectic mix of craft shops and galleries dotted around the pretty quay.

About the location

PRAA SANDS

Marazion 4.5 miles ; Helston 6 miles ; Porthleven 5 miles

The village of Praa Sands sits on the south coast in between Helston and Marazion. Praa Sands is known for its mile-long sandy beach and excellent surfing conditions. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the beach – the perfect spot for lunch with a view or sunset drinks. Praa Sands is also home to a Golf and Country Club, from where the most wonderful sea vista can be enjoyed whilst you play. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle, the tower of which dates back to the 16th century. It is said that Pengersick is haunted, and that the ghost of a monk has been seen wandering the grounds! The house at Pengersick is rumoured to be the birth place of John Carter, the self styled King of Prussia and a tunnel which leads from the house to the beach was apparently once used by smugglers. There are supermarkets and other retail stores in Penzance (8 miles) and Helston (6 miles).
