“The cottage is in a lovely location and so peaceful.”

Dozmary Pool itself is so tranquil and great for wildlife spotting. Everything was clean and the cottage was well equipped for our stay. We were very lucky with the weather for the week stayed and managed to explore many towns and beaches. We plan to return in the future to make the most of this beautiful area.

“The barn and its grounds are absolutely beautiful with an excellently designed kitchen and it is all immaculately clean.”

We felt two dishwasher tablets for a week’s stay was a bit mean and had to also wash surfaces with washing up liquid. The surrounding moors and woods are peaceful places to just ‘be’ and decompress from busy lives. The garden was secure enough to keep our spaniel from exploring elsewhere and the cows walking by provided great entertainment.

“Absolutely beautiful, peaceful place to stay - very well maintained, clean, warm and comfortable.”

Highly recommended! There were only 2 small details that I wish we'd known in advance: 1/ The pillows and duvets were feather-filled, so we had to go and buy a sleeping bag for our asthmatic son. 2/ Although the property is advertised as accepting well-behaved dogs, the listing does not specify that this means dogs kept off furniture. Our dog is very well-behaved, but is used to curling up next to us on a sofa. This needs to be made clearer in the advertising.

“Dozmary Barn is such a lovely place, warm and toasty, with plenty of logs supplied.”

So quiet and peaceful, we were able to unwind and just relax. It rained the week we stayed, so we didn't venture far, but the A30 is not far and makes visiting places easy. Dozmary Barn is well worth a stay, children will love the pond. Take binoculars and a torch, the batteries were running out on the ones provided. Highly recommended

“Second stay and absolutely love it.”

We come for the peace and quiet as our dog hates fireworks and it couldn’t be more perfect. Added bonus that the location is also brilliant for both north and south coasts. Slight disappointment there was no welcome pack milk etc. there also did not appear to be any hand towels.

“Having been part of a party of people who had stayed before, I can confirm that the return visit was well worthy of the recommendation.”

The only downside I was aware of was that on previous visits, basic supplies had been left to make the arrival a little easier. The actual property is in an idyllic position. The facilities excellent. One slight difficulty was found in sleeping beneath the upstairs bedroom, where the floor squeaked considerably.

Everything needed is provided. The only very minor comment, is that wardrobe space is sparse, and if we had known prior to arrival, we may have adjusted our wardobe requirements. This is minor and is totally outweighed by the property and location. A LITTLE GEM and we will be back. Mark Spence

“Barn very well designed and fittings lovely.”

Beds comfy, but winter weight duvet too hot for May. We have ground source heat pump ourselves so appreciate that, but temp set a little high for us. Sofa cushions need restuffing as bit flat. Shower downstairs could have done with soap tray - nowhere to put anything. Loved separate utility in garage and garden, but slightly surprised by no tourist literature at all or welcome pint of milk. Otherwise great, only minor things.

“This was my second visit to this property.”

It is a wonderful place to stay for peace and quiet and relaxation. The cottage is immaculate, with all possible facilities, in very good condition. Plenty of hot water. Cottage itself nice & warm with underfloor heating. There is a woodburner if you need it, with plenty of logs. Lots of lovely places nearby to visit if you wish - Golitha Falls, Minions, Lanhydrock, Pencarrow, Tintagel. All fantastic, but lots of safe walking on your doorstep if you prefer. Fabulous!

Very clean and thought has been put into the equipment provided which is a real positive. Ground source heating was great, no issues, warm house even though it was bitter outside. Location is amazing, especially suited for dog owners. No light pollution at night, amazing skies. Thank you for the hospitality. One small note that there are no shaver sockets so take an adapter.

“What a place!”

We absolutely loved our stay at Domzary Pool, and will definitely be back. The location is amazing - so peaceful, with only one neighbour - and many cows! The barn was spotless when we arrived with really nice fittings, and was definitely very comparable to ‘5 tick’ cottages we’ve stayed at. The only points for improvement would be - a coffee machine would be an amazing addition and the curtains were not lined so lots of early wake ups from the children as the sun streamed through. But overall a truly excellent property, would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful location, whilst being easily accessible for great walks and beaches. We took the owners recommendation and visited Daymer Bay beach and it was great, beautiful sand and interesting rock pools. Can’t wait to return.

“Third time at Dozmary.”

The improvements are excellent but being older people we could not alter the temperature of the underfloor heating! However, the log burner more than compensated for it. Storm, our springador, loves it at Dozmary and despite the atrocious weather he still went in for a splash about. I adore Dozmary Pool Barn and dreaming of returning kept me going through lockdown. It was absolutely spotless when we arrived - many thanks to the lovely cleaning lady. Looking forward to our next visit. Teresa, Rob and Storm. PS - The knives are blunt and need sharpening and would it be possible to have a couple of pyrex dishes.

Tranquil and a perfect place to relax. The facilities were perfect for a family, lots of space inside and out, with high quality fixtures, fittings and furniture. Dog friendly, and very welcoming - and easy to get around Cornwall being so near the main A30, but without the noise. Oh, and the icing on the cake, stargazing. With a clear sky, there is no light pollution - prepared to be amazed, and shooting stars too. Thoroughly recommended.

“A beautiful cottage in an amazing setting.”

The Dozmary Pool is supposedly where the Lady of the Lake gave King Arthur Excalibur! So you do get the odd visitor down to the lake side but generally it's a very peaceful location, just down the road from Jamaica Inn. The barn is kitted out to a high quality with a range cooker, Miele white goods and a large fridge. The only issue was not really having a big enough cooking pan to cater properly for 6 people and no washing basket. We really enjoyed our stay here, especially being able to sit and watch the view across the lake from the living room.

The property

Right on the banks of Dozmary Pool near Altarnun in Cornwall, a detached lakeside house with far-reaching views across the lake and beyond.

Converted from a stone barn, now thoroughly modernised and surrounded by a walled garden, offering fantastic peace and tranquillity (only one other residence near).

This is a glorious waterside place for wild swimming or paddling, informal fishing, and all sorts of outdoor larks.

The occasional horse rider or walker may pass, but here are mostly the sounds of nature (skylarks, water fowl, buzzards) and stunning night skies.

Glazed doors into open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker) with granite worktops, slate floor, WIFI, TV and woodburner.

Ground-floor double bedroom (5' bed, limited clothes-hanging space) with lake views and en suite shower-room (suite).

Stairs up to two twin bedrooms, one with door to terrace (table/chairs) and both with a view of the lake; bathroom (suite, shower over bath).

Washing machine and tumble drier in laundry/utility room.

Arrival after 4.30pm.

For fabulous Swallows and Amazons adventures, or simply soaking up the peace and silence, this is the place to be.

Dozmary Pool is steeped in the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur.

It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

It is good for paddling, swimming, canoeing, walking and wildlife watching.

ALTARNUN

Launceston 8 miles; Boscastle 14 miles; Port Isaac 18 miles.

A very pretty village on the edge of Bodmin Moor, located close to the A30, making it the perfect base from which to tour the many visitor attractions within easy reach. Altarnun itself boasts quaint stone cottages, a stream running through the village, a lovely old church, and a traditional country pub. After a long day exploring the stunning countryside around Bodmin Moor this is an ideal place in which to unwind. Explore four unique villages, Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Crackington Haven, each situated along the dramatic unspoiled coastline of North Cornwall. Port Isaac, a filming location in Doc Martin, is a busy port where you can still watch the fishermen hard at work. Walking and cycling are popular activities in this area and there are beautiful churches and historic buildings to discover. Venture a little further afield and walk the high tors of Bodmin Moor, surf the waves of the North Cornish coast, sample the delights of the Eden Project or take a cruise from Truro down the misty reaches of the River Fal to Falmouth. There's something for everyone nearby, from moors and river valleys to beaches and harbours, stately homes and museums to potteries and galleries.
