The property

The Light House is situated just a short stroll from the quay in the thriving village of Appledore, on the coast of north Devon.

Inside, the owners have created a beautiful and very comfortable contemporary interior which makes the most of the wonderful light that floods the house, with a real home-from-home vibe.

The home, facilities and location lend itself to wonderful holidays all year round.

Be welcomed into a large open-plan living space with a fold-back glass wall and magnificent views overlooking the estuary and Instow Beach.

Outside you will find an enclosed patio garden with comfortable furniture, and of course a barbecue.

From the patio go down a few steps to the stunning lower terrace.

The spacious built-in seating area provides another beautiful vantage point to read, enjoy a cool drink or simply sit quietly and soak in the ever-changing views.

Inside you will find floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with books for all ages, and there are games, CDs, smart TV and a guitar so there is no shortage of things to keep you entertained if you just want to relax at home.

The stunning views and the changing tides are yours, whatever the weather!

Sit at the breakfast bar, the kitchen table or out on the patio savouring your fresh croissants from the deli as you plan your day.

The kitchen houses lovely cookware and all the appliances needed for creating some delicious meals, whilst the dishwasher ensures that you spend your time relaxing, not washing up!

The downstairs WC with cloakroom, washing machine and shoe storage area, helps keep the open-plan space uncluttered and beautiful even with a full house.

On the first floor, you will find three bedrooms, set up as a king-size sleigh bed, a twin room and a single bed (day bed style), suitable for families and friends.

The master bedroom has a French carved wooden bed and a dressing table so you can prepare for your day in style - and the best view from bed that you may ever see.

Enjoy your morning cuppa snuggled in your goose-down duvet with the doors to the Juliet balcony flung open and just watch the boats go bobbing by.

In the twin room sink into the luxury mattresses on the oak sleigh beds and soak in the stylish and gently Art Deco feel of the room.

If you are the lucky person who gets bedroom three you can spend your time creating wonders at the beautiful desk over-looking the estuary, and even set your bed up sofa-style during the day and enjoy your own mini ‘sitting room’.

The family shower-room benefits from a rain-shower, large stainless-steel towel rail and a sun-pipe in the ceiling.

If you are bringing little ones, a travel-cot, stair-gate and baby listener can provided - because packing for a young family is hard enough without having these on your list!

After a day of sun and miles of sand at Westard Ho! beach, or the fun of crab fishing over the edge of the bustling quay, return ‘home’ to enjoy the fabulous views across the estuary while the barbecue sizzles and take all your meals alfresco on the comfortable patio.

Relax after a day of walking, cycling or simply enjoying the excellent pubs, restaurants, delis, art galleries and quirky shops in the village.

While you're in Appledore, don’t forget to take the little fishing boat ‘ferry’ across to Instow beach, and sample the famous Hockings ice-cream with clotted cream.

Or head five minutes away to the seaside village of Westward Ho! with its endless sandy beach, pop-up oyster bar and seaside fun - perfect for days of sunbathing, swimming, sandcastle-competitions or taking the opportunity to take up some surfing!

Fabulous for breathtaking winter walks too.

Make the most of your stay in Appledore by walking or cycling part of the Tarka Trail which passes through the village - and if you're looking for something more country based, then look no further than Northam Burrows Country Park just a few minutes away, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and also perfect for long walks.

Staying in Appledore you are also within reach of the Royal North Devon Golf Club which has been named in the 'Top 100 Courses in the World’, and tennis courts and indoor swimming pool are within five minutes by car.

Further afield are the bustling towns of Bideford with its famous Pannier Market, and Ilfracombe with its historical and artistic attractions, quirky harbour and stunning coves.

The Light House is an excellent modernised cottage showcasing the best of Devon all year round.
