The property

The Cottage on The Square is an attractive, two-bedroom cottage settled on the town square in Chagford, Devon, within the Dartmoor National Park.

Just paces from shops, pubs, cafes and a beautiful church, this inviting abode sports a stylish interior and is perfect for two couples or family looking to escape to Devon.

Parking can be found in the nearby car park before wandering through the pretty churchyard to reach the property.

Enter into the sitting room and immediately sense the homely feel of the cottage. Two plush sofas and a Smart TV invite you to settle down and enjoy a movie night, or continue through to the kitchen/diner, fabulously appointed with all you could need for a week away.

Toast to a home-cooked meal over the dining table before spending a moment in the rear garden to appreciate the last of the day’s sun.

Climb the stairs to reach two immaculately presented double bedrooms, served by a bathroom where you can relax with a soothing soak or freshen up with a hot shower.

Within a very short walk lies a selection of independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Stock up on essentials with a visit to the Beehive Farm Shop or browse the home-made and local treats at Blacks Delicatessen, the Fat Mouse Cheese Shop and Beachwood Bakery. Make time to browse in the two art galleries, Artisan craft shop or the book and art shop. A seasonal, open-air swimming pool, tennis courts, and the 13th-century Three Crowns Hotel are among the town's other attractions. There is seemingly always something going on from craft markets, to evening folk music on the church wall to the annual Film Festival. You will be made to feel most welcome.

If you fancy a night away from the kitchen, there is a fine choice of traditional pubs serving hearty food to enjoy after a long walk along the riverbank.

No visit to Dartmoor is complete without a visit to one or more of the many tors, enjoying the views and clambering over the iconic rock formations. From the cottage, an evening climb to the top of Meldon hill will reward you with a beautiful view over Chagford and across to Kes Tor. If you are keen walkers then there are many wonderful routes across Dartmoor to take in.

There are places to visit aplenty, beautiful Fernworthy reservoir and numerous National Trust locations nearby, such as Finch Foundry, Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo with its extensive gardens. For a day of culture, make your way to Exeter, a city filled with history and art; visit the city’s ancient walls, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Exeter Cathedral.

Whether you decide to stay in Chagford or venture further afield, The Cottage on The Square offers the perfect homely base to return to.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
