“The holiday home was in a beautiful position.”

It was up many flights of steep stairs but that was mentioned in the description. However, I'm afraid the property was not clean. The floor had obviously not been cleaned. I found the hoover to use, only to find it filthy (I have photos) and I had to clean that first. The bathroom floor was so dirty, the bath mat was black, after a day or two. The door to the balcony was so old and stiff we couldn't open it and then shut it. The draught was tremendous around the edges. It was a good job the ...

It was a good job the heating was working. Last, but not least, the hard sofa was very uncomfortable but we thought we'd have a good night's sleep in the bed. How old is that bed? It went in two deep dips-despite the mattress topper designed to fill the gaps. We had back ache all week. The whole place needs a make-over,(bathroom tiles, broken side of bath and doors that don't work). I also forgot to mention, we had to wash all kitchen plates etc as they obviously hadn't been checked over. It was a disappointing holiday, as we love Ilfracombe and we know the apartment could be perfect.

Thanks for your feedback. It was great to hear you felt the location is beautiful. Many of our guests have given similar feedback. We are really sorry to hear that the apartment didn’t meet our usual high standards. We only joined Sykes in mid-September but have let it for many years and previously had consistent 5 star reviews. If you had raised any of your concerns during your stay we would have immediately tried to remedy them. We are really sorry we didn’t have a chance to do this. We live locally and respond very quickly. We have spoken to our cleaner/caretaker and inspected the property. Our caretaker did clean the floors. However, we would have re-cleaned them if you had contacted us. She doesn’t empty the bagless vacuum after every clean and usually does this when it is full. The double glazed hardwood windows to the front were replaced at the end of last year. Whilst the patio doors at the rear were replaced a few years ago they are not old and are annually maintained. The doors moved freely the week before your stay but it appears that the torrential rain has made them a little stiff. This is being resolved. The leather sofa and chair are sprung and filled, and a number of previous guests have said they are comfortable. However, we appreciate that personal preference makes a big difference to the experience. The mattress is a medium firm mattress and this, along with the memory foam mattress topper and mattress protector were replaced a year ago. I have checked them all and they are not dented/damaged. The topper does shape to your body and can be taken off if preferred. The bath panel has been pushed out of place and there is now a one and a half centimetre crack where the panel fits on the bath. This will be repaired. Finally, our family and caretaker work hard to ensure our guests have a lovely stay. We apologise again that you weren’t completely satisfied and reiterate that we would have dealt with your concerns immediately had you contacted us. Property Owner
