Shay “What an amazing week we had!”
I don’t normally do reviews but our stay was most definitely the best Uk holiday we have had by far and my son actually said it was the best holiday ever! Being a family of 7 I looked for a house big enough for us and this house exceeded this, above and beyond. The house it self is just absolutely beautiful, pictures on here do not do it justice at all. It was very well equipped with everything we could possibly need and spotless on arrival. I actually had the best weeks sleep here then I have in a very long time, our bed was so very comfy and warm. Ellen & Robert were quite literally the best hosts we have ever come across, my husband said he would return purely to spend more time with them. Three of my children ages 4,10 &12 wanted to go fishing, my husband and eldest daughter had gone out for the day. My two year old was having a bad day and wouldn’t stop crying, I was worried my other 3 would miss out on fishing but Robert was more than happy to watch and teach them and they had the best time! I am so grateful to Robert for sharing this experience with my children. Me and my husband also went clay pigeon shooting with Robert and Ellen, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed and was pretty good at it, me on the other hand wasn’t so great at it but still had amazing time with lots of laughs. Ellen & Robert- Thank you both so much, you are both such lovely people and really hope we stay in contact. We can’t wait to come back xxx

Michael “Lovely place to stay with welcoming owners.”
The little one enjoyed playing in the shared garden and on the slide and swings. It was nice and quiet as well with pretty views. Large bedrooms and plenty of space inside. Good smart TV. Lovely bathrooms finished to a high standard. Bring your own teabags, salt & pepper, oil etc though, as there was very little there, which in my experience over the last 30 years is quite rare. 10 min drive takes you into Westward Ho! which is a nice little seaside town to enjoy the long beach and play in some amusements, pick up some food or have a drink overlooking the sea. Plenty of other places to visit within 30mins- 1 hr Enjoy!
- Michael, August 2024Ellie “Thank you for the lovely stay!”
The property and it’s gardens/ponds were throughly loved and enjoyed by everyone in our party. We had such a wonderful time relaxing in both the house and by the ponds and made use of all of the house’s great features: bath, TV with netflix, the large living and dining space. Felt so isolated and it was such a peaceful stay, yet only ten mins away from Westward-Ho and even closer to supermarkets and shops. We would definitely love to stay again and will recommend to family and friends.
- Ellie, April 2024Mel “Lovely well kept property, better than advertised.”
Perfect location and lots of amenities around including beaches. Owners were amazing and always full of suggestions of what to do locally. Will book again. Em & Mel, Canada
- Mel, June 2023Helen “Lovely setting, good communication with owners and very welcoming reception.”
Double bedroom very nicely decorated and bed and bedding very comfortable. Living room and other bedrooms a bit tired looking. It would have been great if there had been some staple cupboard supplies/condiments such as salt, pepper, oil etc . Also more dishwasher tablets would have been useful (3 for 8 people for 4 days is not quite enough), as would more tea towels (one wasnt enough) and a draining board.
- Helen, May 2023Thank you for your feedback, we are glad to hear you had a nice stay. As the property is self catering, the owners may choose to provide a starter pack at the properties however this is not essential. Property Owner
Kylie “What a beautiful holiday home, perfect location, everything you need and no expense spared there.”
You are out in the countryside, yet 5-10 mins from local shops which is so handy. Then you have Westwood Ho 10-15mins away. A perfect Easter bank holiday. Thank you
- Kylie, April 2023Ronald “Throughly enjoyed our stay would deffinatly go again there could be, an improvement in the parking facility.”
- Ronald, August 2022Rob “We loved our stay at this cottage.”
Really friendly hosts, amazing house, couldn’t have asked for more!
- Rob, June 2022Paige “Property has been done up so it was a lovely surprise to get there and it be even better than the pictures!”
Owners were absolutely lovely and make us very welcome. Shops just round the corner and nice coastal areas just 1o minutes away. Beautiful place and would definitely recommend a stay.
- Paige, April 2022David “What a lovely place to stay.”
The farm is in a wonderful location and offers easy access to all of North Devon and parts of Cornwall too, if you don't mind a drive. The accommodation was very well presented, clean and tidy and the owners were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms are large and clearly have been maintained to a high standard. Having a bathroom with separate shower (and what a shower !!) downstairs with another shower room upstairs made life a lot easier for the seven of us. The open plan lounge diner was plenty big enough with a good sized, well equipped kitchen too. Even though we had higher than average temperatures during the day, when the evening came and things chilled off, the whole place stayed warm. I bet it is wonderful when there is snow around. The only issue for us was that although the accommodation is dog friendly, we found the owners two dogs, who roam free quite a bit, weren't always so. When we were walking across the lawn to towards the lakes, there were a couple of occasions when we were forced to turn back because one of their dogs took a dislike to one of ours and it got a bit heated. At the end of the day, we brought our two dogs into their environment so it could be expected and it really didn't cause a huge issue, but might be worth highlighting just in case. Overall a fantastic stay in an awesome setting. Would definitely recommend and very much hope to return. Massive thanks to Mr & Mrs Lee.
- David, October 2021Kathy “As you can note from our formal complaint, logged on to your system last Sunday morning, it was an absolutely dreadful place that did not meet your description or our expectations nor was it even compliant with current regulations.”
We arrived late Saturday and only stayed until Sunday morning as it was so dreadful. We have received no feedback as yet to our request for a full refund.
- Kathy, April 2021John “Spacious cottage and friendly owners.”
Some of the renovations of the Barton are excellent but others poor. eg Really smart wet room but pile of floor tiles stored in the kitchen. Good furniture and facilities but unpainted door frames and blob of mastic in the toilet pan. Weird mix of great and poor.

John “Mr and Mrs Lee made us most welcome and provided what we needed.”
- John, September 2020Susan “Ideally placed to explore North Devon.”
An interesting slice of old Devon rural life. Bideford is a really interesting town, Croyde brought back memories of family holidays and RHS Rosemoor was stunning.
- Susan, August 2020Rachel “Really chatty hosts and very welcoming.”
The house is comfortable and has a well equipped kitchen but really needs a deep clean especially the lounge/dining area. Don't think the sofa has been moved for a long time and the area around the TV is not great. We stayed in a wet and windy October and struggled to keep warm as the downstairs radiators didn't seem to work in the day. Log burner is lovely if you know what you're doing with it.
- Rachel, October 2019Derick “An excellent host, Mr.”
Lee, who went out of his way to make us welcome and very kindly took us fishing on one of the farm's lakes. Excellent accommodation with all mod. cons. and stunning views across towards Dartmoor. The local pub, The Crealock Arms, in Littleham, was top class too. A lovely location with the coast in easy reach. The nearby Gnome Reserve is a must for children of all ages.
- Derick, August 2019Eve “The Barton, is in a pleasant, quiet location.”
As it's listed as a working farm, we expected to see sheep, cattle and chickens, but didn't, which was a disappointment. The cottage is well equipped - not exactly spotless, but in fair condition - new beds and bedding would be a great improvement! The dishwasher broke down, but a new one was fitted in less than 24 hours, so that was good. And Mr and Mrs Lee, were both very pleasant and welcoming.
- Eve, July 2019John “Friendly Owners made us very welcome so did the farm dogs.”
Sheep were sheep but the grandchildren loved them. All in all a very memorable holiday.
- John, June 2019Karen “We had a lovely relaxing holiday at the Barton and the weather was hot and sunny.”
The cottage had everything that we needed for our stay, and our hosts were very helpful and informative. The surrounding area is very picturesque, and this is an ideal base to visit local attractions. Thank you for a lovely relaxing Easter weekend.
- Karen, April 2019Nathanael “Great cottage, very peaceful and perfectly situated for lots to do round about.”
The owners were very friendly and welcoming.
- Nathanael, August 2018Hazel “The only other thing I would have liked is access to a downstairs lavatory.”
(there were three upstairs} It could make things difficult for the very young and the elderly but this is a comparatively small consideration as the rest of the facilities and hospitality were lovely.
- Hazel, May 2018Paul “Enjoyed our stay very much on 30/3/18 for easter week !”
The owners were friendly & helpful, a light stopped working they fixed it straight away! We watched peter lambing which was very intresting & farm was peaceful & quiet.Couldn't praise it enough was just what we wanted! We will be booking to come here again. We would like to thank the owners again for a great stay paul angie & family+ dog :)
- Paul, March 2018Tim “We felt really welcome at this farmhouse, which is both tucked away and remote, while being a 5 minute drive to a Supermarket, and really well placed to visit North Devon and Cornish beaches.”
When we arrived ‘late’. The fire was lit, and we had all we needed for a cream tea already in the fridge. We spent a week walking, chilling, and fishing with our daughter and her family. The kids could let off steam and find quiet spots to chill in this lovely old farmhouse. We made good use of the washing machine and tumble dryer and even went home without any laundry. A proper break, Thank you.
- Tim, February 2018Denise “Worst cottage ever been to, only stayed 1 night out of 6 booked.”
