“Think we were the first people in cottage for this season although it was a nice cottage it did need a good deep clean at beginning of the season.”

cottage was handy for traveling to different places to visit etc. pub across the road was only open for food on Sundays and for drinks only on the Friday evening.

“We loved our stay at Red Roof again, but we were very disappointed to find that the jamming kitchen door from the stairs had still not been planed-back (after we reported this last November!”

) to ensure that the door closes without jamming shut! Also, one of our dogs escaped through the rear garden latch gate, because the latch doesn’t work at all and the gate has been put on the wrong way round…the gate should open inwards towards the garden, not outwards. If this had been installed the correct way round, our dog would have found it very difficult to escape towards the A303 dual carriageway, even if the latch didn’t work! It scared the living daylights out of us while we tried to find our dog in the pitch black, thinking the worse that our beloved Ollie had run out onto the A303!

“Very steep stairs to first floor and steep stairs to main bedroom not mentioned in property details although uneven floors are which is good.”

The property should not be described as having 2 bathrooms as there is only one bathroom and a very small en-suite shower room. Very disappointing to find that the pub mentioned in the details is closed which was very inconvenient as we’d planned to eat there and having to do food shops took time out of our holiday. Having said all that the cottage was well equipped with quality white goods and oven and the bedding was spotless. The milk and bread which was provided for our arrival was most welcome and a lovely surprise to find. We didn’t use the garden but it was exceptionally pretty and had lots of birds which was pleasing. I would like to suggest that a hairdryer would be a very useful item to offer. All in all a great little cottage in an extremely quiet area close to A303 and A30 and considering the cottage is terraced there was no noise nuisance from any of the other cottages.

“Techno stuff brilliant hardly any doors shut thus we couldn't keep the dog in the kitchen as hoped the adjacent pubs hardly ever open in the evening.”

Need to fix the doors and locking hardware. We appreciated the modern TV and firestick and the facilities were above average too. Overall a positive experience thanks guys

“We had a nice stay although it was a little too rural for us, the pub was closed everyday we were there so had to travel out in the car to get anywhere, including walks for the dog.”

Cottage was well equipped but would have been lovely to have had a hairdryer as I didn’t take mine with me. The best bit was the bed, we have never slept on a more comfortable bed ever! (Including our own) Please can you let us know which make it is? Visited Seaton and Sidmouth which were lovely.

“The listing did not mention low ceilings or uneven floors, as a result this property did not suit our needs at all and in fact it was an uncomfortable and unpleasant stay.”

The listing described the property as having two bathrooms, which was one of our requirements and a reason for choosing red roof, in fact it had one bathroom/toilet and a separate (very small) shower, so again did not meet our needs, overall this was very disappointing and was an unpleasant stay. To add to this, it is a very cold property, and the smell of the wood burner, which we did not use, permeates through the whole property even the bedrooms.

The listing is clear in that it has 1bathroom and 1 shower room. I would have thought you would have contacted Sykes if you were so disappointed with everything. There are heaters in each room and the log burner is there to be used. If you did not use it how can you say it permeates throughout the property. I would suggest you look at previous feedback when choosing properties in future. Property Owner

“Very well appointed and comfortable.”

We had everything we needed in the kitchen. The bathroom and shower facilities were excellent. The log burner was a real treat. I guess if I had to criticise anything, the sofa was not the most comfy, but we had to spend more time on it than usual as the weather was horrible. The Flintlock arms over the Rita’s was a real bonus. Good food, good beer, dog friendly and no noise.

“The kitchen door from the bottom of the stairs doesn’t close properly, but instead, jams shut.”

I very nearly couldn’t open the door in the morning to let our dogs out! Also, an indoor clothes drier would be good…we bought one at Chard which we will take with us in future. We loved our time at Red Roof, thank you.

“Overall we really loved the cottage but there were a couple of small issues.”

We searched on the website for 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom properties expecting there to be a toilet in both the bathroom and the ensuite shower room though we acknowledge that there was no mention of a WC in the shower room in the general description. Maybe there is a structural reason why the shower room could not be made a little bigger to include a toilet and basin despite there being ample room in the bedroom? Also, for a cottage advertised as sleeping 4, there was seating for only 3 people in the lounge, not for 4 as was implied by the pictures on the website.

Parking at the front door was great. Well presented and equipped the only minus was the main lounge was very dark but being an old cottage I couldn’t see how that could be changed. I would recommend this place as a great base for getting out and about

“For a cottage that will accommodate 4 people, there were only 2 chairs in the garden.”

The garden was overgrown and had an upturned wheelbarrow as a back gate which our dog nearly lept over. There was no welcome information left for us which would have been nice. There was an innocuous looking basket on the floor in the sitting room which contained some details about the local area - we didn't notice this until the last evening of our stay. This would have been better served if it were left by the visitor book. It would have been nice to have some history of the cottage i.e. age, original use, old photos etc. This could have been made as a wall hanging or even just some laminated sheets left on the table for occupants to read. The bolt off the bottom half of the stable door was missing which meant we couldn't leave it open for ventilation as the dog would dissappear into the insecure garden. The cottage has potential but the owners need to invest more time & effort into it

“Cottage was pretty much as expected from a 19c building it was quite dark that was expected.”

Very clean but wardrobes were musty and didn't want to put clothes in them. Lovely cottage garden but becoming overgrown, and where was the gate! Info stated enclosed garden. We all know, no garden is 100% get out proof but garden lead onto shared space with neighbour and I'm sure they wouldn't want dogs in their garden. Also the A303 was not far from back garden, scary if dogs got out. Just to point out there was little or no info about places and local walks etc. Owners do usually leave a little something eg milk or bread but nothing at all except an empty basket saying welcome! Think theymust be new to renting.
