The property

Tavistock 3.5 miles.

Set in a quiet country lane, together with a scattering of other pretty cottages and the neighbouring parish church, Whincroft lies on the edge of the village of Mary Tavy, just four miles from the stannery town of Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park.

A beautifully restored and extended, detached home from home for friends or families looking to escape the rigours of work and daily routine.

The pretty, whitewashed porch provides the entrance, shed walking boots and welly boots here and once inside, the centrally positioned, informal dining room is a place to celebrate special times together.

The soft neutral hues of the restful sitting room is an invitation to unwind, and curl up on pale squashy sofas, with the glows of a wood burning stove adding further warmth to chilly autumnal evenings.

Watch favourite shows and films on the wall mounted TV with Blue Ray and Roku device, whilst teens and children can escape grown-up conversations in the snug room next door, equipped with TV and Playstation 4.

The more recently extended kitchen is a place to linger over morning coffee whilst breakfast is being prepared.

A bright and spacious room with sunlight streaming through patio doors, enjoy hearty Aga-cooked meals after long walks in the countryside, there is a further electric oven in the useful utility room with a cloakroom to the side.

The first floor is home to four gorgeous bedrooms, dressed in crisp white linen, each one decorated in Farrow & Ball shades to reflect the ever-changing colours of the moorland.

A spacious master bedroom with king-size bed, benefits from an en-suite shower room, whilst the sunny, whitewashed twin with accents of yellow and grey provide the option of a super king bed if pushed together.

Tones of heather and greens are the theme for the pretty, dual aspect double room with views to the garden and the countryside beyond, whilst the delightful single room decorated in ‘old white’ looks out over the garden to the rear and these bedrooms are served by a family bathroom with bath and shower over.

Step outside to the rear of the cottage into a richly planted, heavenly scented mature courtyard garden full of roses and pretty shrubs.

A summerhouse adorned with fairy lights provides a shady spot for alfresco dining and allows for continious enjoyment of the glorious outside even when the weather is less than perfect.

Behind the summerhouse, a large lawn garden has further seating, a hammock to while away the hours with a good book and a inflatable 4 person hot tub, no better place to enjoy the unpolluted dark skies of this magical location.

This is walking boots country with paths that lead straight onto the moor and accessible right from the doorstep.

The River Tavy is within a short walk and the Granite Way can be joined a short distance away, the 11 miles of mainly traffic-free route stretching from Okehampton to Lydford, for walking and cycling, traversing some of the most impressive Dartmoor countryside and moorland.

Stop for lunch in one of the many great pubs in the location, the closest being in Mary Tavy a 15 minute walk.

For day’s out with the family visit Buckland Abbey, Lydford Gorge, Castle Drogo and Dartmoor Zoo, and further afield the Eden Project and the sandy beaches of the north or south coast are only an hour or so away by car.

The historic market town of Tavistock boasts an award-winning bi-weekly farmers market, as well as the vast selection of independent shops, restaurants and cafés to enjoy.

Whatever the season you choose to stay, Whincroft will provide a wonderful and relaxing base to explore and recharge the batteries.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
