“Have had a lovely week with 2 kids here.”

Location is brilliant with lots to walk to as well as being central to drive around. Particularly enjoyed Castle Drogo, the Visitor centres in Postbridge and Princetown and Lydford Gorge. Cottage was cosy and comfy, surprised at how warm it was. Lovely base to explore this beautiful area.

The property

Tucked at the end of an uneven private track, about ½ mile from the shop and pub in Postbridge, an extension of a Victorian farmhouse surrounded by mature trees and granite, moss-covered walls, and beyond, moorland pasture and the crystal clear East Dart River (small trout fishing).

At the back, accessed via the track, an enclosed tree-sheltered large lawn and shrub garden; to the front, a footpath leading to the village and pub (about 5 minutes, but remember torch!).

Steps up to covered porch and French windows; large, comfy open-plan living/dining/kitchen with huge inglenook (woodburner), TV/DVD, neat kitchen area (washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge, electric oven & hob).

Stairs (stairgates) from the living area up to landing and two bedrooms - a double (5' bed, TV) with lovely views, and a twin with view of the garden.

Bathroom (suite, shower over bath plus hand-shower, doors to landing and double bedroom).

Spring water.

A wonderfully private spot, excellent for walkers and those seeking outdoor adventures. Postbridge: tiny oasis of a village (pub, PO/shop) in a shallow valley in the very middle of Dartmoor beside the East Dart River with ancient granite clapper bridge beauty spot.

Golf, 8 miles.

Plymouth and nearest beach, 19; Exeter (cathedral city), 20.

About the location

POSTBRIDGE

Chagford 6.9 miles; Okehampton 18.7 miles; Plymouth 21.0 miles.

Postbridge lies in the centre of Dartmoor between Moretonhampstead and Two Bridges, next to the East Dart River. It is an idyllic place to uncover Dartmoor's archaeology and showcases one of the finest clapper bridges in the country, believed to date back to medieval times and would probably have replaced stepping stones to assist packhorses cross the babbling river. Well positioned to enjoy an array of activities, Postbridge boasts fantastic walking and cycling routes in nearby Bellever Forest, as well as several archaeological remains including roundhouses, stone rows and a burial cyst. From here, you can also visit the remains of a 19th- century gunpowder factory known as Powdermills, which produced gunpowder for the local quarries and mines. Popular tourist spots such as Okehampton and Plymouth are also easily accessible from here by car, making this a holiday destination to savour.
