  • Julie

“A really lovely holiday cottage, warm, comfortable, cosy and clean.”

Lemon drizzle cake was smashing - thanks Vicky. Despite quite a wet week, we found plenty to do with some bird watching on the Somerset Levels and a visit to Wells Cathedral, Tyntesfield and the West Somerset Railway all good. Julie & Ken

About the location

SUTTON MALLET

Bridgwater 6 miles; Glastonbury 10 miles.

The rural Somerset parish of Sutton Mallet can be found on the low lying land known as Sedgemoor on the Somerset Levels, nestling at the foot of the Polden Hills, six miles from the bustling town of Bridgwater. The Somerset Levels are an Area of Special Scientific Interest, a marshy area intersected by water channels which stretch from the Mendip Hills as far as Taunton, and are internationally renowned for wintering wildfowl and provide a habitat for numerous species of breeding birds. The flat landscape offers great cycling routes, with lovely walks to be had across the nearby nature reserves where you could be rewarded with a view of some rare bird species. The village makes an excellent touring base, with numerous attractions catering for all tastes within a short drive, including a shopaholics paradise at Clarks Shopping Village in Street, and mystical Glastonbury, famous for its Abbey, Tor, and annual music festival. Alternatively, visit the UK’s smallest city of Wells with its beautiful cathedral, the beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare, spooky Wookey Hole Caves, and Cheddar Gorge, as all are easily accessible. Sutton Mallet makes a peaceful, rural base for a relaxing, enjoyable holiday at any time of the year.
