The property

Thorverton 2.5 miles.

Church Farm Dairy is an appealing barn conversion sitting within beautiful gardens in the charming village of Cadbury.

Renovated to a high-standard whilst exuding character and charm, this idyllic countryside retreat is perfect for couples seeking an unforgettable escape to Devon.

Step into a lovely open-plan living space with a fully-equipped kitchen providing everything you need to whip up a wonderful meal which you can enjoy around the dining table. After a day of exploring, sink into the sofa with your loved one to watch your favourite movie or an episode of your favourite show on the Smart TV. Make use of the sunny patio for a lazy summer lunch and enjoy the house martins as they swoop and dive over the garden or light the fire bowl and settle down for a dreamy evening watching the hills and sky change colour as the sun sets over the Raddon Hills and Dartmoor.

Unwind in the shower room before catching your rest in the king-sized bed.

When you’re ready to head out you’ll be spoilt for choice between a host of local gardens including Fursdon (just down the lane) enchanting tearooms, cobbled courtyard, homemade cakes and fabulous views, or the National Trust properties of Knightshayes Court and Killerton House & Gardens.

Or head off to Exmoor or Dartmoor for a day exploring the wild and rugged landscapes of our two local National Parks. There are many local walks and four long distance trails can be joined within striking distance – The Exe Valley Way, Devonshire Heartland Way, Two Moors Way and the The Mary & Michael Pilgrim’s Way or catch a train from Crediton to Okehampton, hire a bike and cycle along the Granite Way. The South Molton Pannier Market (awarded Britain’s best community market) and Crediton Farmers Market are both worth a visit and the Antique Village in Hele and quirky shops and stunning architecture of Topsham and Totnes are all within an hours’ drive. Head up to Tiverton for a stroll along the canal, followed by lunch at The Lost Kitchen, or head down to Exeter and visit the cathedral, Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery and the Underground Passages, followed by supper at the Rendezvous Wine Bar.

If home beckons then book a table for Auberge Night at the incredibly popular Ring of Bells gastro pub in our neighbouring village of Cheriton Fitzpaine. To fully absorb yourself in this ancient landscape simply walk out of the front door and up to the top of the early Iron Age hill fort known locally as Cadbury Castle.

From here the patchwork of Devon’s rolling hills, fields and hedgerows stretch away in all directions and, if it’s early evening, there’s always a chance that you may see the Cadbury Dragon who (legend has it) flies at night to project hidden treasure at Cadbury. Church Farm Dairy, in this little known corner of Devon, where the pace of life is slow, is the perfect base for a couple’s retreat.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
