“We were rather disappointed with this cottage.”
We always look for remote places which are not over-looked. It wasn’t made clear on your listing that it had another barn next to it and that the property opposite looked directly into the barn. We felt that there was no privacy and that we were unable to open the blinds in the living room. We would have thought that there would have been a blind over the window that looks directly into the bathroom? Again the privacy angle for us is important. Whilst the general cleanliness and decor was immaculate, we were shocked to find that when we removed the bedding at the end of our stay (as we always do regardless of whether it is requested), we had been sleeping on heavily stained protectors which is a first for us. Also some of the cutlery was dirty. There were basics missing from the kitchen such as a frying pan, Prosecco/champagne glasses and whisky tumblers, lap trays, small kitchen knives and so on, which are always provided in other properties we’ve stayed in. We also had a problem getting Wi-Fi, which was virtually non existent and also meant that the smart TV was useless as it worked on the Wi-Fi. There was satellite free view but no BBC. We wanted to let you know about this and since there were two phone numbers (separated by only 1 digit) in your information pack, we rang both numbers and left messages. One person rang back and said that we had a wrong number and we had no response from the other at all. We didn’t know who lived in the house opposite and didn’t feel that it was appropriate to knock on doors so we had no Wi-fi for the entire 4 days. Generally we found the property to be very basic. Not what we were expecting and not what we are used to.
Good afternoon Mrs Morgan Redford, thank you for your feedback. It is quite rare that I receive poor feedback and as a small business that relies on recommendations I would like to address each point that you have raised.
There is no excuse for a stained mattress protector. I apologise for this and have spoken to the cleaners, about the hygiene standards I expect.
I live in the house opposite the cottages and my name and number are on the first page of the welcome pack. I really wish you had knocked on my door or rung my mobile number and I could have addressed all these issues with you. The Wi-Fi signal is strong and the TV is a smart TV. I have just checked it and all appears to be working well.
I have also checked the cutlery which is all clean however this could have been different for your stay. Again I have spoken to the cleaners about this.
The frying pan is too large for the pan stand and it is kept in the oven. I have now moved it onto the hob. Thank you for pointing this out.
I have also put 2 whisky tumblers and 2 champagne glasses in the sideboard for future guests.
The 2 cottages were originally barns for the Tudor farmhouse. They are grade 2 listed and were converted to holiday cottages a number of years ago. Guests normally comment on what a beautiful location it is and how nice the farmhouse looks, however I appreciate that people have different views and I respect your opinion.
Anyway, thank you again for your feedback. Best wishes, Chris Bolton
