    “A very comfortable, quiet, well maintained gem of a cottage.”

    Near to family & friends and the lovely Jurassic coast. Star visits are The Cotley pub, Barleymows farm shop and cafe and Perrys cider cafe and shop. In Chard, Jam for sarnies and cake and a fab butchers in Holyrood street ~ great sausages! We slept well, great shower and nice and comfortable of an evening curled up watching tv. Can’t fault it

Cider Barn is a beautifully presented barn conversion nestled in the charming village of South Chard in Somerset.

The Lakehayes holiday cottages, situated in South Somerset, Apple Cottage and Cider Barn are two impressive barn conversions set within a pretty garden setting. Approached through a gate which leads to a gravel drive and car parking area with ample parking, and a spacious paddock with fruit trees and a small stream running through. Located in South Chard, a small village on the borders of Somerset, Devon and Dorset, there is a local pub and small convenience store within walking distance and both Axminster and Chard offer a wide range of amenities so you can stock up for your stay. For food lovers, why not make your holiday that bit more special and visit one of the award-winning gastro pubs nearby – The Tytherleigh Arms and The Cotley Inn both offer a creative selection of dishes from classic pub favourites to lavish evening meals and a great selection of local beverages. For those who prefer to cook, Barley Mow farm shop in neighbouring Chard offers an array of local groceries and produce and visitors are sure to come away with far more than intended. Take a trip to nearby Forde Abbey House and Gardens where a leisurely stroll through its award-winning gardens is recommended, Within 10 miles of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis is a great day out with its family-friendly beach and famous Cobb Harbour. Explore the Lyme Regis Museum and learn about the area's rich fossil-hunting history before trying to find your own fossils on the beach. For the keen walkers, the South West Coastal Footpath offers a wealth of scenic walks with incomparable views of the Jurassic Coast and countryside. The Stop Way Line, a long-distance coast-to-coast walking and cycling route partly follows the ‘Taunton Stop Line’ built by the Army in 1940 to contain any Nazi German invasion of the South West. These defences ran for 50 miles, from Burnham on the Bristol Channel to Seaton on the South Coast. Between Ilminster and Chard, it largely follows the track of the old Great Western Railway. Chard Reservoir is another popular woodland walk.

South Chard is a small village resting a couple of miles from the bustling parent town of Chard, in the picturesque setting of South Somerset. It has a pub/restaurant and a convenience store for your immediate amenities, whilst Chard provides a larger choice to suit all preferences. Close to the border of Devon, a short drive will bring you towards the Devonshire market town of Axminster which perches between the Blackdown Hills AONB and the East Devon AONB. Featuring a wealth of history at the Axminster Heritage Museum found in Thomas Whitby's house, whilst also benefitting from its close proximity to a wide-range of trails for walking, hiking and cycling particularly at Over the Hill to Holditch with your furry companion by your side. South Chard is an excellent choice for a remote break to this wonderful Somerset location.
